Intermediate Care Facility

Since 1980, ARC of Maui County has provided residential services for individuals and families.  The services have received awards for its efforts.  Presently, we operate and maintain four residential services in the communities; two residences are located in Central Maui, one residence in Kihei and one residence in Lahaina.  Within these residences, we operate this unique Intermediate Care Facility for Mentally Retardation within the Community (ICF/MR-C), where services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with an active treatment program.  It includes services by a physician, nurse, social worker, recreational therapist, dietitian, and psychologist to enhance their lives.  Additionally, we provide specialized programs for nutrition, medical appointments, dental services, social programs, community outings, full integration into the community i.e. movies, beach outings, and other activities which we all enjoy.  ARC of Maui County provides the only ICF/MR-C supervised services on Maui within the neighbor islands.  Our clients have the following characteristics…

They are homeless since the State Institution closed in July 2000.  This program is essential.

They are up to 25% of the poverty level.

They are regarded as minority.

They are disadvantaged.

They are mentally retarded which overshadows the other items.  

Locations

Hale Lahaina was established in 1980.  This home, located in Napili, is a five bedroom facility.  The home fits well within the community.  Since its beginning, individuals have lived there.  They are employed at nearby hotels and stores.  ARC of Maui County provides direct supervision in the home.  Each person has their own room.  The home has television, DVD, community outings, etc.  Their meals are share together.  The home is licensed under the State of Hawaii Department of Health as a Domiciliary Home. 

Mana Ola Na Keanuenue was established in 1982.  This home, located in Central Maui, is a five bedroom facility.  The home is licensed as an Intermediate Care Facility for Mentally Retarded within the Community (ICF/MR-C) which must meets federal standards.  The home serves severely impaired individual who have special needs.  Plans of activities are developed for each person.  Goals with specific objectives are established for all to meet.

Hale Kihei was established in 1987.  This home, located in sunny Kihei, is a five bedroom facility.  The home is licensed as an Intermediate Care Facility for Mentally Retarded within the Community (ICF/MR-C) which must meets federal standards.  The home serves individual who have special needs.  Plans of activities are developed for each person.  Goals with specific objectives are established for all to meet. 

Hale Kanaloa was established in 1989.  This home, located in Central Maui next to Mana Ola Na Keanuenue, is a five bedroom facility.  The home is licensed as an Intermediate Care Facility for Mentally Retarded within the Community (ICF/MR-C) which meets federal standards.  The home serves individual who have special needs.  Plans of Action are developed for each person.  Goals are established for all to meet. 

All of the homes operate 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours daily to provide needed services for the residents.  Transportation services are provided on a 24 hour basis for medical and dental appointments, shopping activities, and community outings.
